Today- 2010- The Social Welfare Institutions – Dar al Aytam al Islamiya
The Social Welfare Institutions ( SWI ) are a Lebanese non-governmental organization ( NGO ) providing diversified specialized services in over 54 institutions and programs spread over the 5 mohafazat (Governorates) of the Republic of Lebanon. SWI are catering for the needs of vulnerable population, mainly: orphans, children with special needs (mental and physical), school drop outs, the elderly and unfortunate women. Furthermore, SWI provide programs and services that include: special education, in kind donations and financial aid for needy families and widows, women empowerment (skill enhancement and technical training), subsidized kindergarten for children of working mothers, informal education and illiteracy programs, early childhood intervention, vocational education, health services and a home for orphans and abandoned children.
SWI target the neediest and the poorest in the society.
Today SWI embrace around 11,000 beneficiaries in all its institutions and centers, from new born up to the elderly and a specialized dedicated team of 1000 employees is behind this service delivery.
The SWI depend on individual donations and charity, having a database of over 40,000 donors. Around 25% of expenditures are covered by the Ministry of Social Affairs’ contributions for determined programatic contracts.
In recognition for a donation for the establishment or rehabilitation of a center and upon the request of the donor, the buildings are named after the donor in addition to the name given by SWI that is a direct expression of the service provided.
Today, SWI have 6 institutions and centers under construction and expect an increase in the demand for its services.
SWI finances are audited by external auditors, Deloitte & Touche.
